15 DG Khan projects get CM’s nod

Says new tehsils, districts will be carved out to facilitate people in region

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar laid the foundation stone of 15 development schemes for the district on Tuesday.

While unveiling a plaque at the Circuit House for three projects of over Rs600 million, the CM said new tehsils and districts would be carved out to resolve issues of the masses. The project includes a protective embankment to save the adjoining localities from river erosion, the Ghajini escape project and a protective embankment worth over Rs400 million on the right side of the Indus river.

He also inaugurated the Pull Dot Chowk beautification project along with the inauguration of Shehr-e-Khamoshan, Model Graveyard, Kotla Sikhani and Gharbi DG Khan.

The chief minister also laid the foundation stone of 12 projects of nine billion rupees for DG Khan including a mother and child hospital valuing Rs2.10 billion, construction of 133-km-long roads through Kohe-Suleman, improvement project and building of emergency and OPD blocks in DG Khan teaching hospital.

Later, CM was briefed about development schemes at a meeting held at the commissioner's office in DG Khan where the chief minister made it clear that delay in the completion of development schemes was unacceptable.

The CM expressed his dissatisfaction over the performance of DG Khan solid waste management company and regretted that unnecessary delay was made in the procurement of required machinery despite the provision of funds. The South Punjab secretary should go to the field to review projects and vacant posts in DG Khan teaching hospital should be filled immediately, he said.

The CM announced that the South Punjab forensic lab would be set up in DG Khan, and one billion rupees would be utilized for an off-grid solution to provide cheap electricity. The NHA officials briefed the CM about the construction and repair of the Indus Highway Taunsa and Sakhi Sarwar Bridge.

Meanwhile, members of national and provincial assemblies from Bahawalpur division called on Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar at the Islamia University’s Baghdad Campus in Bahawalpur and thanked him for issuing the new Pakistan national health card for the Bahawalpur division. “We intend to carve out new tehsils and districts, but the announcement could not be made due to the local government elections,” he added
